Munich’s unique museum landscape is always good for not only one, but several photo exhibitions. With our photo group “Blau” we recently went on a trip there. In the Pinakothek der Moderne you can look at the work of Sabine Hornig, “Durchs Fenster” (Through the window) until February 26th. Large photographs of windows opening into empty rooms, building sites, abandoned houses. The images are hung frameless, the photographed window frames also function as frames in the exhibition. This makes for exciting communication between the levels of space, window pane and mirror images. On Sabine Hornig’s website you get an idea of the serie. Also, in the Alte Pinakothek, some additional photographs have been inserted into the permanent exhibition. Supposedly to suggest relationships between old and new works. Alas, I failed to see these relationships. On the contrary: the presence of the old masters (in painting) suddenly made me doubt the value of contemporary photography as such …
